Mariage Frères – Tea Time à la Française

Mariage Frères is the oldest French teahouse born in Paris during the 1850’s. Its name is simply due to the association of 2 brothers from the Mariages family to create a tea and vanilla import business.
Mariage Frères is all about authenticity, family values and history. They are claiming the fact that the family created the “French art of tea”, where elegance, prestige and perfection are the master words.
In fact the brand has surfed on the wave that tea was mostly consumed by Royal families during the 19th century and as a consequence it is a luxury product.
Indeed, the Mariage Family has been one of the first family introducing tea to French people, and as a matter of fact they are still pioneer. After a full success in France the brothers have decided to extend the “French art of tea” to the world by opening few teahouses in Japan, where tea is a religion. They are also distributing their product in more than 60 countries thanks to a thousand of resellers.
But the company never stop its efforts to make tea an exceptional product. In addition to be distributed in many countries, Mariage Frères teas are present in a wide range of Palace and high-end restaurants around the world. Going from the Ritz in Paris, the Claridge’s in London, the Oriental Hotel in Bangkok, to the Mamounia in Marrakech.
This pioneer family extended their skills to elaborate a new range of derivated products and reach more customers, such as delicatessen, objects related to tea or fragrances. They have opened a whole restaurant dedicated to tea, with tea flavored pastries, neither wine nor alcohol is sold in this restaurant, tea only.
Whether it is a true story or not, consumers are sensitive to the authentical values of the brand. They are not only buying tea, but they are also buying a “savoir-faire”, a passion and a family story.
Mariage Frères is definitely a Success Story "à la Française".
